Really Rocket Science Ringtone Blasts Off

We've launched a new gizmo here at the Really Rocket Science blog-- free countdown ringtones for your mobile phone.

The idea for the ringtone came from Andrew Tytla,  Marketing Communications Manager at SES AMERICOM and Jim Lewis of CCI
Florida, who suggested it to International Launch Services. (CCI Florida
produces all launch video broadcast for Cape Canaveral.)

While in the studio for the ASTRA 1KR launch in April, Don Spencer (PDF) sat down and recorded a clean "countdown" for the ringtone, which was later combined with a dramatic Atlas rocket liftoff.

If you have witnessed the broadcast of an Atlas launch, you have heard Don Spencer's voice. He's known as the "Voice of Atlas."

Now you can download the ringtone for free and have the "Voice of Atlas" tell you when you've got an incoming call.

I put in on my phone

I've got the T minus 5 countdown on my Verizon LG VX6000 and it's great. Whenever it rings around a crowd, everyone looks at me as if I'm a Secret Service agent or something.  I think it's the "Mission Control" in the beginning.  Thanks for releasing the ringtone!

Can I get it as an MP3?

Is this available as an MP3? I'm putting together a microsoft photo story for my daughter's 8th grade graduation class and I'm hunting for an authentic-sounding countdown audio.

Ringtone Blastoff

To get a MP3 of the ringtone :-

Go to site http://blog.reallyrocketscience.com/promo/blogad and listen to both blastoff ringtones.

Keep you browser open but minimized.

Open Windows Explorer and browse to C: Documents & Settings - Click Open

Folder with users name i.e your name - Click open

Local Settings folder - Click open  If you can't see this you will have to go into Tools/Folder Options/View tab and click the radio button for "Show hidden files and Folders" - Click OK and reopen Windows Explorer

Back in Local Settings Folder click on Temporary Internet files and the two files will (should) be near the bottom of the page.

Strangely both will not copy to the same folder as they seem to have the same filename.  Copy one to a seperate folder and rename the [1] part to [2]

If you had to had to click "Show hidden files and Folders" above - Reverse instructions to switch them back off in case of accidents.

This is a very easy way to get different types of files that can't be 'right-clicked & copied' as long as you don't close Internet Explorer before trying it.

I apologise if you have already tried this with a different browser and it hasn't worked.

Also, I have no idea what the copywrite situation may be regarding any other uses of this MP3.

Countdown to explosion

Don't use the ringtone in an airport, you might get shot by TSA for having a bomb!
